Duke the Tomcat has been sick due to a respiratory infection brought on by his FIV.
I’ve been nursing Him for about three weeks while enriching the Veterinarian. In the last couple of days He seems to have made a come back. He’s regaining the 4 ½ lbs. He lost and is acting more like his old contrary, independent self.
It’s been a scary time for Him and me but it’s brought us closer together the way such things will. During the hours I spent with Him in my lap while I fed Him baby food from the tip of my finger I made up a sick cat lullaby to pass the time and ease our minds. Here, for better or worse, it is.
Put a pat of butter on the Tomcat’s nose
it got a little burnt when he tried to sniff the stove
don’t tell Him that was foolish ‘cause He already knows
so just put a pat of butter on the Tomcat’s nose
Tie a little splint ‘round the Tomcat’s tail
it got a little bent after fallin’ off a rail
He thinks that you weren’t lookin’ and you didn’t see him fail
so just tie a little splint ‘round the Tomcat’s tail
Rub a little salve on the Tomcat’s paw
it got a little sprained when He slapped the puppie’s jaw
so give Him lots of praise for enforcing Tomcat Law
and rub a little salve on the Tomcat’s paw
Poke a little pill in the Tomcats‘s tummy
He gobbled too much grub ‘cause it tasted really yummy
then He gacked it all up and now He’s feelin’ crummy
so poke a little pill in the Tomcat’s tummy
See that little twinkle in the Tomcat’s eye
He’s a little beat up but His spirit’s runnin’ high
He knows that He’ll be all right ‘cause He’s got so many lives
and that’s why there’s a twinkle in the Tomcat’s eye
If your pootie is feelin’ poorly feel free to sing this to them, it won’t hurt and might do some good - and thanks to all of the Kossacks who worried along with me ‘bout Duke and even sent him invisible fruitcake.
